A Complete Guidance on Some Notable MOT Cases

MOT is a legal test, so it needs to be taken seriously as the Transport Ministry does not want any minor negligence to cause danger on the road. There are many cases related to the MOT Test on which DVSA has laid down many rules and laws. For instance, to get a retest done you need to know certain specific procedures, or else you will have to pay a higher fee. So let us understand all such cases one by one.

In What Cases It Is Possible to Drive Without A MOT Certificate?

According to the MOT law, if a person drives a vehicle without a valid MOT certificate, he will be banned and some fine will also be imposed on him, but there are some exceptions to this. Due to these, you are not fined in any way and these cases are as follows:

  • When you have to go to auto work, get the necessary repairs mentioned in the VT30 document after not passing the MOT original test. This is possible even if the fault found in the vehicle is not considered to be in the category of danger.
  • When an appointment is made by pre-booking for an MOT Test in Manchester.

Now the transport authority can only allow you to drive if you have valid evidence for them. One thing to note is that the vehicle in which such a case is found is not allowed to go out of the MOT center, which makes it dangerous to drive in public without permission.

What Are the Consequences of Driving Without a MOT Certificate?

This question is asked by a lot of people, yet we decided to give a comprehensive answer to it. After passing the MOT test, a certificate is given which is important proof to state that the vehicle is allowed to be driven on public roads as all its essential components are in good condition and working properly during the test.

Now think for yourself whether it will be illegal to use this legal document if its validity expires or not. This will happen, and that is why in such a case, transport officials have been given the power to impose fines on vehicle owners. The amount of fine to be imposed depends on certain terms and conditions.

Even if there are serious issues, if you are caught driving without an MOT validity the fines are hefty, going up to a maximum of £2,500.

Another consequence of such cases is that you can also get a penalty of three points which affects your driving license. If you do not take all these legal steps seriously and still get caught driving in this manner, you will have to undergo a sentence of several months.

How Much Do We Have to Pay for MOT Re-Test?

If your vehicle fails to pass the MOT for any reason, you are allowed to undergo this test again but there is a time limit and fee procedure that needs to be taken into consideration. If you partake in the test again within 10 working days of the original test, the fee amount is determined in two ways, as follows:

  • If you get all the issues fixed by your testing center, you will have to pay half the amount you paid for the original test for the retest.
  • To rectify all faults, if this MOT center does not keep your vehicle on the premises, you will still have to pay half of the MOT test fee to attend this re-test.

Another case is that if after failing the test, you get all the faults fixed by another garage and then come to your first MOT center the very next day for a re-test, you will be charged some fee. However, this is possible only if the defects found during inspection relate to certain specific items, for instance, tailgate, lamps, non-slip brake pedal, boot lid, horn, steering wheel, wheel, door, windscreen, wipers, windows, etc.

If for any reason you are unable to appear in the re-test within 10 days, then this second chance will end here. Now your vehicle has to undergo the original test again and no exemption will be given in its fees.

Is Urgent Car Servicing Required Before the MOT Test?

Do you want to know if the car needs instant servicing before passing the MOT test? So we would like to advise you that if your vehicle does not miss regular servicing then there is a good chance that it can pass the inspection in one go. With time, the vehicle develops some minor issues which is why it is always recommended to follow regular Car Servicing in Manchester so that you do not have to face any consequences.

In this way, the smooth performance and condition of the car are never affected. Bear in mind that most of the time the reason for our MOT failure is very simple such as lights not brightening properly, visibility issues due to scratches or cracks on the windscreen, the horn not sounding right, etc. So you should consider such checkings before attending this test.
